Why do students access mental health support?
At NKC Gravesend College we provide mental health support for a wide range of reasons. Some of the most common include anxiety, depression, bereavement, life changes, self-esteem, and confidence. Support is also available for more complex concerns such as self-harm, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts, or questions around identity.
You can speak to our Welfare and Safeguarding Team about any issue that is affecting your wellbeing. Our team will work with you to understand your situation and help you access the right support.
Counselling at NKC Gravesend College
What is counselling?
Counselling at NKC Gravesend College provides a safe and confidential space to talk about any challenges you may be facing. It gives you the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings openly with a trained professional.
Our counsellors are there to listen without judgement and help you develop your own coping strategies and ways forward.
Is counselling confidential?
Our counselling service is confidential. This means that what you discuss will not be shared with parents, carers, or staff.
There are some limits to confidentiality, particularly where there are concerns about safety. These will be explained clearly during your first appointment.
What happens at your first appointment?
Your first counselling session will include:
- An initial assessment and discussion about your situation
- An opportunity to ask questions about the service
- A chance to talk about what you would like to gain from counselling
- Planning any future sessions
What happens next?
Once you request mental health support, a member of the Welfare and Safeguarding Team will contact you to discuss your needs and next steps.
